Find More DeMarco. Hey guys, I was just watching Mac's music video for 'My Kind of Woman', and it really kind of came to me that this video could be a really good prediction of how his life could go. Sorry for the long post.
Link to video: Alright, let's get down to the beef and bones of this #CONSPIRACYTHEORY2K16 From 0:00-0:38 of the video, with Mac being inside a bunch of news papers, and showing off his wacky personality by smearing lipstick and shoddy mascara, one could take this as him being in a womb, and developing into the boy (or in this case, girl, because we can assume this is just a girl version of Mac) we all know and love. Also, one could see it as God putting Mac's soul into his developing body, you pick whichever you want. From 0:38-1:05 of the video, Mac is 'born' from the newspapers, by falling out of them, and the letters in the background that flash and spell out 'Mac DeMarco' signify how he was, and every kid is named at birth.
The action of putting on the earrings and wig cap signifies him being introduced to gender roles in society or whatever you want to call them. From 1:05-1:22 we can see the fully developed girl version of Mac (I'll call her G-Macky from now on), since the blackout presumably skipped childhood straight to his/her life around the ages of 18-24, where the 'stage', mic, and sign represent how in those years of his life she knew she wanted to be a musician, and played tons of shows and wrote many songs. From 1:22-1:32, with the falling of the curtain onto all of the miscellaneous items scattered around, we can see this as a representation of his career taking off, and fans get serious insight into her personal life with interviews, photos, and such. From 1:32-1:57, the way the whole shot was filmed showed how tiring and disorienting touring all the time has been. With people that love G-Macky flashing by her that she seems to forget, the fact that he the whole scene and how she looks speaks that she doesn't know where her life is headed at that time, all paired with the lyics, 'I'm feeling so tired, really falling apart' shine life on her hectic life. From 1:57-2:03, this scene predicts G-Macky finally being able to settle down for a bit after her hectic life on the road. When she does this, she gets a cigarette thrust into her mouth, which symbolizes her chain smoking cigarettes as she is able to have time to record Salad Days, which is represented by the salad being thrown in her face.
