A good copy is better than a bad original: Fortnite meets almost all the requirements for this motto. The gameplay is sometimes extremely similar to. After a short lobby phase, an aircraft brings you and other players (up to 99 in total) to a deserted island where you have to fight your rivals while the area gets smaller. Fortnite also convinces with an atmospheric day-night cycle and changing lighting conditions.

There is not much to criticize about the graphics options. The corresponding menu consists of 14 settings, starting with the picture mode all the way up to an FPS counter, and they are applied without a restart. You can also choose an automatic mode or use one of four presets if you do not want to change them individually. The presets do not just change several quality settings, they also change the resolution. The low preset, for example, is only displayed in 480p, and the medium setting in 720p, which noticeably affects the sharpness. The performance is increased significantly in return though. There is an optional FPS limit for 30, 60, or 120 frames per second.
A switch for VSync is obviously available as well. Fortnite can be installed via Epic Games launcher. The gaming platform is comparable to its rivals Steam, Uplay, and Origin, but it has more in common with Blizzard's Battlenet due to the limited number of games. Our test is based on the Free2Play version of Fortnite, which occupies about 16 GB on your hard drive right now, so it is similar to PUBG (13 GB). The developer could improve the loading and connection times, which are a slightly too long for our taste.
We also encountered some error messages (not unlike PUBG), but Fortnite is currently still in an early-access state, so you should not be too critical here. The PvE missions are not included in the F2P version and there is no replay feature according to our information, so we use the classic Battle Royale mode for our benchmarks. All players are thrown into a kind of lobby and can play around before the actual game starts. Because of the bigger spawn area and the 10 instead of 60-second countdown, it is unfortunately not easy to follow a certain sequence (see video) compared to PUBG, and there are some performance fluctuations even if it works. It is a fast first-person shooter, so the target result should be higher than 60 FPS.
