Excel For Mac Crashes When Hiding 6,6/10 2732 votes

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Can anyone help me? Excel is crashing all the time and it isn't completely predictable. The times that it does is when I am in select data on a graph. I have all the updates. I just uninstalled office 2008 (used appcleaner) and then reinstalled and updated and the problem isn't fixed. This is really stressing me out. I use excel to graph data for my dissertation and other research products.

One of our users is plagued with Excel crashes. Excel will crash randomly while in the middle of various random unrelated actions, anything from clicking on a cell, printing, clicking open, save - no consistency whatsoever that we can find.

I just don't know what else to do. I have copied the latest error message from the more info error report. Posted:, 12:38 PM In article, wrote: > Version: 2008 > Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) > Processor: Intel > > Can anyone help me?

I just don't know what else to do. I have copied the First, reinstalling Mac apps is almost always a waste of time - apps themselves just don't corrupt very frequently. It's often prescribed for WinTel, I suspect because reinstalling often fixes registry errors. Those type of errors typically occur in Preferences on Macs. And using a third-party app to do so wouldn't give me very much confidence that I got everything (Office uses hidden files that may not get caught). Better to use the Remove Office application that comes with Office.

Repairing disk permissions with Disk Utility is a good idea, though it rarely causes the kind of problems you're seeing. One thing that has caused problems in the past is corrupt fonts - XL seems to be more sensitive than other apps. If your Preferences are corrupted, trashing or renaming these files (with ALL Office apps closed or it won't work), should fix the problem: In the ~:Library:Preferences: folder (where ~ is your home directory): com.microsoft.Excel.plist com.microsoft.office.plist and in the Microsoft:Office 2008 folder in the Preferences folder above: Office Font Cache (12) If it's something else in your system setup (a conflicting app, haxie, etc), then try using a fresh Mac OS X account. And if it's been a long time since you rebooted your machine, doing so will reset the system font cache. Posted:, 11:09 PM I tried all of the above and it is still crashing. Any other suggestions? > In article, > wrote: > > > Version: 2008 > > Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) > > Processor: Intel > > > > Can anyone help me?
